It seems no matter where you go, someone will want to capture the moment with a photo. This fact of life is really a compliment because the person with the camera wants the moment to be frozen in time and shared with the world!
If you are self-conscious about your smile you will likely be pulled out of the enjoyable moment by withdrawing to a place in your mind where you begin thinking:
- Maybe I can take the photo and not have to be in it
- I’ll just smirk instead of smile so I don’t have to show my teeth
- Perhaps I can hide in the back or make a funny face with a distracting (but tasteful) hand gesture…or give them a kiss on the cheek (see photo above).

DIY White Teeth Tips
Here are a few Do It Yourself ideas you may try at home:
- Baking Soda.
Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda with a couple drops of water and stir it into a paste. Put the paste on your toothbrush or finger and apply to your stained tooth or teeth.
Note: This is abrasive and hard on your enamel and gums so this should not be your primary method for a long period of time, but can produce results.
- Hydrogen Peroxide.
This one makes people a bit nervous, but is a classic go to for white teeth home remedies. To do this you can fill the cap/lid with peroxide and saturate Q-tip with liquid. Apply generously to all teeth. After this pour the remaining amount from the cap into your mouth and swish around like over the counter mouthwash products.
Note: Do not swallow hydrogen peroxide!
- Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse.
Seems every home remedy uses Apple Cider in some way. For teeth whitening, mix water with apple cider vinegar at a 3:1 ratio (respectively) to dilute. Mix with an all natural toothpaste and brush like normal.
- Banana Peel.
What? You’ve never tried this one! After you brush and floss, use the inside of a ripe banana peel by rubbing it on your teeth for two minutes. It is said to be absorbed into your enamel for a solid whitening effect.
DIY Fresh Breath Tips
Your white teeth will certainly give you greater confidence, but if you’re still going to keep your distance from people because you worry about bad breath, here are a couple Do It Yourself ideas for to freshen up:
- Apple Cider Vinegar (again).
Stir in a tablespoon of this into a glass of water and drink before your meals. Another option is to stir in a teaspoon into a glass of warm water and gargle.
Dip a handful of parsley leaves in vinegar and chew them thoroughly for a minute or two on a regular basis. You can also juice the parsley leaves and sip your new drink for quick results.
Lemon’s acidic and citrus properties prevent bacteria growth on your tongue and gums. A teaspoon of lemon juice in a glass of water with a pinch of salt can work well. Rinse thoroughly before bed.
